JEDI STARFIGHTER

The official Lego version of the Jedi Starfighter is kind of wimpy. I wanted to put a little meat on its bones, so started with some decent engine detail (again, the creative use of wheel parts allowed me to mimic this perfectly) and built around this. After seeing the plastic version of this vehicle in stores, I also wanted to recreate the detachable fuel tanks (required for long-range flight only) so the vehicle could switch to 'battle mode'.

What I like most about this model is the way it foreshadows future development in much the same way as many other vehicles in Star Wars: Episode II - including the overall similarity to the much larger Imperial Star Destroyer, the X-Wingesque profile when you detach the tanks, and the obvious similarity to a TIE Fighter when you open the wings.
