IMPERIAL STAR DESTROYER

Definitely one of my favourite Star Wars vehicles, well worth the many headaches involved in getting that base angle correct and, above all, robust. While a lot of time went into making this as close to the original design as possible, some compromises had to be made on the shuttle design for reasons of scale and practicality. Also, as I've mentioned before, the kids like toys that do things - so Lego/SW purists should look away now.

The grabbing claws and magnetic capture arm were included because my eldest son refused to allow the inclusion of tractor-beam technology. Fair enough. The orange arm and connecting pieces are from the only non-Lego kit I ever bought (from Megablocks), and uses a standard Lego magnet for capture. The Star Destroyer can also capture the shuttle just by 'dropping in' on it, thanks to yet another magnet in the docking bay.
